Wherever you go, always take a copy of your child’s diagnosis letter with you! Most places offer special rates for disabled children and often, carers are allowed in free. If you are going to an attraction when it’s busy and queues are likely – ring them and ask if they have a bypass system for those who find queuing particularly challenging.
Disabled person’s railcard
5 – 16 year old may qualify for a Disabled Person’s Railcard, if they meet the criteria. If the receive DLA (high/low rate mobility or high/middle rate care) Just compete the application form and send with a copy of the award letter. The railcard gives a 1/3 off the standard fare to one adult travelling with the disabled child. There are other disabilities that qualify, so it’s worth looking into, for adults as well as children.

Blue Badge parking permit
If your child receives the higher rate of Mobility for DLA they are entitled to a Blue Badge to park in disabled spaces. Go to Hampshire County Council's website for more details and how to apply.
Concessionary Travel Scheme
If you are receiving the higher rate of DLA mobility or have a Blue Badge parking permit you could be entitled to Travel Tokens or a Disabled Person's Railcard. For more information please contact the relevant council.

Motability
This is a car leasing scheme available to those on higher rate mobility Disability Living Allowance. No waiting lists, credit checks or medical assessments are required. Breakdown Service
With most breakdown services (the AA, RAC etc.) if you are a member and you tell them that you have your disabled child/adult in the car when you ring for assistance, they will make your call out a priority!
Road tax
If you are in receipt of the Higher Rate Mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance then you can apply for an exemption certificate. You may have been automatically sent an application form for a Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) exemption certificate, but if not you can get one from the Disability Living Allowance Unit, Warbreck House, Blackpool, FY2 0UE.
