Go-karting fun @ Connaught

Posted by nashandr on August 6, 2011 at 1:50 PM Comments comments (0)

On Friday 5th August we had a whole day of go-karting at Connaught Leisure Centre, Aldershot.

Kiddi Karts were brilliant enough to bring along 3 huge petrol kadet-karts and 4 battery cub-karts (and all the helmets, cones and inflatable track!) to Connaught Leisure Centre for the day.

We had organised the families into small groups so that there was as little waiting and turn taking as possible for everyone and luckily it all ran fairly smoothly!

The sun was shining, the Kiddi Karts staff were fantastic and enthusiastic....... and did a great job with rescuing the cones from under the karts and helping those who needed assistance with steering!

Pics are now in the photos section.

Donutting fun!

Once again we hired the donutting slope at Alpine Snowsports in Aldershot for a couple of hours on Tuesday 2nd August.

A great time was had by 20 children in each of the 2 sessions and there were several parents who enjoyed themselves too!

It was hard work getting back up the hill each time but I'm told that whizzing down the slope made up for it each time :)

A special mention has to go to Jay, as he managed to stay for both sessions and ended up very hot & sweaty, having had a really good time!

All the photos taken are now in the photos section.

Manydown Farm fun

Posted by nashandr on July 11, 2011 at 5:42 AM Comments comments (0)

On Sunday 10th July 2011 Manydown Farm opened for the day especially for special needs children.

We had the most relaxed day there, with wonderful weather (Nikki's face currently matches her hair!) and so much fun was had by all. There were over 130 children there and their families too and yet it was still so calm and peaceful.

The giant hay stack was good fun - the children loved being on top of it....it was the adults who struggled to get up there!

The maize maze was still growing, but we had fun following the paths and looking at it from the 2 bridges.

The feedback we have received from this event has just been absolutely amazing, but in all honesty we didn't have to do much as the staff at Manydown were so eager and willing to have us there! The discounted entrance fee was brilliant and meant that so many families were able to access the fun. A huge thank you to Guy and all his staff for giving us all such a fantastic day.

Here's hoping that we are able to repeat it all again next year! :o)

All of our photos taken on the day are in the photos section. Do let Nikki know if you have more to add to the collection!

.

Go to www.manydown.co.uk to see what's there!

It's a fantastic day out over the Summer and the farm shop is open throughout the year (but closed on Monday's).

Special needs fun @ Playdays

Posted by nashandr on May 25, 2011 at 9:15 AM Comments comments (0)

I know that Playdays is slightly out of our area, in Basingstoke but my boys have such a great time there as it has a large play frame and (fixed/attached) air guns that fire foam balls at a target.

The slide is a huge high one and great fun to whizz down!

There is an age registriction of 11yrs, but it's still good fun for those who are young enough.

On the 3rd Friday of every month, 6pm - 8pm.  Entry is £3 for under 4’s and £3.50 for those over 4 years or go for the Meal Deal - a hot kids meal for an extra £3! (They do gorgeous chips here!)

For more info call Playdays on 01256 346173. They need people to attend to keep running, so use it or lose it!

Hampshire Yellow Cards.....

Posted by nashandr on May 7, 2011 at 7:21 AM Comments comments (0)

This card registers your child on Hampshire's disability register, but also enables you to easily access "free carer" concessions.

To obtain one for your child, call 0845 603 5620. You will have to talk to a social worker or support worker who will ask you questions about your child. If your child has a social worker, receives middle or high rate DLA or attends a special school the process is simple and your yellow card will be produced quickly. If you don’t meet those criteria, you can still get a yellow card but you will need to give them permission to contact your GP or any professional who knows your child and their issues. A form will be sent to you, and to the professional and once you have returned them, you should eventually get your card through the post.

Currently there isn't a list of places that will accept a yellow card, so when you have used yours please let Nikki know so that she can add the details to the list she's compiling!

It is hoped that there will be two social skills groups on a Saturday; one for ages 5 - 9yrs and then a second for those aged 9 - 15yrs.

The cost will be £5 per child, per session.

Also a youth club for ages 13yrs and upwards, on a week day evening (the day is still to be decided.)

And in the future, they hope to run a Lego therapy workshop.

If you are interested in any of the above, please contact  kate.nixon@nas.org.uk

Parenting groups in Hart & Rushmoor

Posted by nashandr on April 1, 2010 at 8:53 AM Comments comments (0)

Triple P Group (for parents of primary school aged children) &

Triple P Teen Group (for parents of children from 11 – 16 years)

These are open to any parent through self referral and by referral form other agencies. These 8 session parenting groups support parents to make lasting changes in their parenting skills, and impact on their child’s behaviour. This is a flexible programme and some of the sessions are held in groups (session 1 – 4 and session 8), the remaining sessions are one to one (in person or by telephone) with the facilitator so that parents have a real opportunity to gain support from other parents and to tailor the strategies to their own particular family life. Parents have a reference book/workbook provided which is theirs to keep after the course and DVD materials are used throughout.

Parents or referrers who wish to find out more about a specific course running should contact the named Triple P programme facilitator direct. Places are generally offered on a first come first served basis. It is expected that parents or referrers will make contact with the facilitator BEFORE the programme starts. There is no charge for the parenting programme, although there may be a charge for crèche facilities if they are offered.

Please do not assume – that because a course is listed here that the course is running on the given dates at the given times or that there is an automatic place for an interested parent. Sometimes preference will be given to parents whose child attends a school in the cluster – you must contact the facilitator / organisation direct and have a conversation.
